Daurenbek Alei

Founder & Expedition Leader, Breathe Altai Camp

Daurenbek is a native of Western Mongolia’s Altai Mountains and the visionary behind Breathe Altai Camp. He is deeply committed to advancing responsible eco-tourism, sharing authentic nomadic cultural heritage, and raising global awareness about the critical importance of high-altitude ecosystems.

With years of immersive field experience in the remote Altai highlands, Daurenbek has cultivated profound, practical knowledge of mountain ecology, traditional Kazakh nomadic culture, and the localized impacts of climate change. His work centers on curating intimate, small-scale expeditions designed to foster meaningful connections between travelers, local communities, and the natural world.

In recent years, global warming has accelerated glacial retreat in the Western Altai, threatening high-altitude environments and the natural habitats of rare medicinal plants. In response, Daurenbek has spearheaded grassroots initiatives to protect these vital botanical resources. Beginning with the conservation of the Golden Root (Rhodiola rosea), his efforts are firmly focused on safeguarding rare flora and promoting their responsible, sustainable use.

His work integrates three interconnected pillars:
- Nature Based Expeditions: Organizing immersive, eco-conscious travel experiences.
- Biodiversity Conservation: Protecting high-altitude ecosystems and rare plant life.
- Sustainable Partnerships: Fostering the responsible, ethical use of medicinal plant resources.

Working hand-in-hand with local communities, Daurenbek actively welcomes collaboration with international tour operators, environmental organizations, research teams, and global partners interested in sustainable botanical practices. His ultimate mission is to forge sustainable, community-driven partnerships that meet international standards, ensuring the breathtaking natural and cultural heritage of the Altai Mountains is preserved for generations to come.
