The best time for trekking and general touring is from June to September when the weather is milder.
For the Eagle Festival, you should visit in early October. Snow Leopard expeditions are best in
cold-weather (November-April) for tracking visibility, though it requires preparation.
Do I need a visa for Mongolia?
Many countries are now visa-exempt for tourism (up to 30-90 days), including most European
countries, USA, Canada, and Australia. However, policies change, so please check the latest official
Mongolian immigration advice or contact your local embassy before booking.
How do I get to Western Mongolia (Olgii)?
You first fly into Ulaanbaatar (UBN). From there, we will arrange domestic flights to Olgii (ULG) or
Khovd (HVD). The domestic flight takes approximately 3 hours. Our team will meet you at the airport
upon arrival in the Altai region.
On The Trail
What is the accommodation like?
We stay in authentic Kazakh gers (yurts). Click here to more about Yurts or Gers. These are comfortable,
felt-lined round tents. In remote areas during treks, we may use high-quality expedition tents. When
in Olgii city, we use a
comfortable local hotel or guesthouse with hot showers and Wi-Fi.
How fit do I need to be?
This depends on the tour. Our cultural tours are accessible to most fitness levels. Trekking and
mountain climbing tours require good physical condition. We can tailor most itineraries to your
comfort level—please discuss this with us when booking.
What about food and dietary requirements?
Our private chef prepares fresh meals daily. We serve a mix of Mongolian/Kazakh cuisine and Western
dishes. We can accommodate vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free diets with advance notice.
Safety & Booking
Is it safe to travel in Western Mongolia?
Yes, Mongolia is known for its hospitality and safety for tourists. In the Altai mountains, the
environment is wild, but our guides are certified in first aid and wilderness safety to ensure you
are well cared for.
